Fibrosis

After liposuction, it’s common for some people to notice firm, tender lumps forming under their skin. These lumps are called fibrosis. They can feel hard or rubbery and may be uncomfortable or even painful to touch. Fibrosis can show up in different areas, and the size or depth of the lumps can vary from person to person. It usually starts to appear within one to three weeks after the surgery.

If left untreated, fibrosis can stick around for a long time. It doesn’t always go away on its own, and over time, it can cause more discomfort. Some people feel ongoing tightness or pain, and the lumps can make the skin look uneven or bumpy. This can affect not only how the area looks but also how it feels during everyday movements.

One of the best ways to prevent or reduce fibrosis is through Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD). This is a gentle technique that helps your lymphatic system work better. By improving the flow of lymph fluid and reducing swelling, MLD can stop fluid from getting trapped under the skin—one of the main causes of fibrosis. Starting MLD sessions early in your recovery can help keep everything moving properly and lead to a smoother, more comfortable healing process.

Even if fibrosis has already formed, MLD can still be very helpful. It can ease the tight, sore feeling and support the health of the tissues. With regular treatments, the lumps may become smaller, less painful, and the skin may start to feel softer and look more even. While it might take time and consistency, many people see real improvements over the weeks and months.

Taking care of your body after surgery is just as important as the procedure itself. Adding MLD to your recovery plan can make a big difference—not just in how you feel, but in how your results turn out long term.
